First Birthday Party Ideas?

Seriously, what? It's a month away, but I'm freaking out because the stuff I want to do is not really possible. She'll be the smallest (and youngest) child at her own party and I don't think it's fair to rent a slip-n-slide or bouncy castle if she can't participate. What I'm trying to organize here is a 2-hour playdate that happens to have cake, ice cream, and pizza. We're putting "no gifts" on the invitations to reinforce the idea. I just don't want the kids to get bored.

I had an interesting experience in a public restroom today and it made me think: When is it no longer appropriate to be naked in front of your child? Also, when is it no longer appropriate for your child to be naked in front of others?

ChewyBaby is about to be a year old. I let her run around naked sometimes, but never when we have company. I also don't like to change her diaper in plain view of others - especially males. She's shown a bit of modesty, so I have an idea of what her limits ...

Let me just say that I don't care what other moms do. I really don't. I personally think breastmilk is the better option for babies, but I understand if a woman has health reasons or something and can't. No big deal. What is a big deal is all of this nonsense I keep reading from anti-breastfeeding people. I will not condone the behaviors of a pro-BF mother to badger or guilt a non, but I think this snotty "I'm not going to breastfeed my baby, so there!" attitude is so immature.
SuperBaby is going to be an only child and we're okay with that. So many other people aren't, though. I don't think it's fair to attempt to bring another human being into the world so we can have "one of each" or to prevent her from being "spoiled". This isn't a meritocracy and there is no family plantation to be inherited by producing a male heir. Also, there are plenty families with a houseful of spoiled children. Mine does. I think I learned what not to do from her. When the ultrasound results told me I was having a daughter, I was very disappointed. Not because I didn't want a girl at all, but because I didn't want the same relationship I had with my mother. I recently found out that her behavior was beyond my control, and it's not my fault that things are the way they are. That said, I love my girl and I ...

Here, I had to drive 30 miles to get SG diapers, and not even a good size (40 CT). I guess I'll just have to go to Amazon.com.

Kelvin is over 6 months old- OK, he's my 5th kid- you would think I wouldn't wonder about this- but when will I get my period?! LOL

In the past I noticed I would get it around 4-6 months postpartum (I breastfeed). Now, I did read back in my blog and it seems with Matrim I didn't get my period till he was 6 months+1week old. So Kelvin being about that same age now- I am wondering if it's coming anytime now? I feel like I've been PMSing for months LOL

So I'm just curious- when did ...

Baby is in the 9th percentile in weight (87% in height) and it's scary. I'm nursing her 5-6 times a day, as well as feeding her cereal and pureed baby food. I even bought all of those Gerber Graduate snacks and Gerber toddler juices in an attempt to fatten her up some. It's weird. Her thighs are chubby, but she's still weighing in at 16 - 16.5 lbs. Has been since she was 6 months old. The ped suggested maybe I didn't have enough milk. Not even. She pulls away from me (and the spoon), so she can ...

What's your LO's favorite hiding place or the weirdest place you've found something that belonged to her/him?

I was in one of the bathrooms (we try to keep both doors closed!) rewrapping toilet paper that had been unspooled by a certain young lady the other day, and I looked over under the clothes drying rack to find a Wii remote. Last night, there was a sippy cup in its place. And we still can't seem to find the PS3 remote. It's been days now and it's not cute anymore. I told DH we may ...

Do/did you find yourself competing with other parents or feeling guilty about your own child's development?

We were at the post clinic yesterday for DD's 9 month check-up and I let her walk around the waiting room and follow me and nurse back to the exam area. My purpose was to tire her out so she would fall asleep as soon as we were done, but I think it came of as showing off - which was so not the point. It would've been much easier for me to just push her in the stroller. Anyway, she ...

We saw a woman today with a 9 month old, and she let him have a Dum-Dum. We have a relative that let their 6-month-old have a sucker, too. Is this weird? It's really all very new to me, because I just assumed artificial sugar was a no-no for babies anyway. We also know a family that let their 3 year old have Coke and Oreo cookies.
